About Us

We’re Tim and Jenni, living just outside Medellín, Colombia. We've been visiting Colombia since 2015 and moved here full-time in 2020. Before that, we spent over five years in Panama, where we ran a tourism business.

In 2019, Tim was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL), a rare and incurable cancer. Panama’s healthcare system wasn’t equipped to handle such a complex disease, so we turned to Colombia for treatment—it was just a one-hour flight away, allowing us to keep our business running.

Tim underwent five rounds of in-patient chemotherapy and an autologous stem cell transplant, achieving remission—yay! But when the pandemic hit, Panama shut its airports for nine months, preventing him from getting follow-up treatments, and he relapsed. Ultimately, we sold our business and relocated to Colombia permanently for better, more affordable healthcare.

Tim relapsed once more but is now in his third year of remission, thanks to daily immunotherapy affordably provided by Colombia’s national healthcare system as part of our contribution to the system. In the U.S., this treatment would cost over $14,000 a month. He’ll need it for life, but we’re grateful he’s among the 5% of patients who have lived beyond five years post-diagnosis. Hopefully, a cure is on the horizon!

Why Paper Kite Design?

The name is a blend of two inspirations: the beautiful Paper Kite butterfly and the kites (cometas) flown all over Colombia. From his 12th-floor hospital room, Tim watched kites soaring over MedellĂ­n, it made him happy while receiving difficult treatments.

At Paper Kite Design, we focus on tasteful, high-quality designs. Unlike mass-produced or poorly made AI-generated products, Tim—a professional graphic designer—puts care into every design, ensuring originality and attention to detail.

Our quality control expert, Becky Craig, lives in Cape Canaveral, Florida. With years of experience in the apparel industry, she ensures our products meet high standards. Some of us also call her Mom.

About Our Products

At Paper Kite Design, every product you find on our website is made to order. This means we don’t stockpile items in a warehouse, avoiding unnecessary waste and energy use. Plus, it greatly reduces the chance of you receiving the wrong item—what you order is made just for you!

Once you place your order, the magic begins. Your item is crafted and customized to your specifications. On average, it takes 2-5 business days to prepare your order, which includes sourcing the blank product and applying the design. If there are any unexpected delays, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.

Shipping times depend on the product, the carrier, and the shipping option you select at checkout.
