During this time, the Hat and Boots became a secret hangout for skateboarders, who found the large installations to be a fun urban playground, transforming the site into an unofficial skateboarding spot that fostered a sense of community among local skaters.

Fortunately, the community rallied to save this beloved landmark, leading to restoration efforts spearheaded by the Georgetown Carnival and local artists.

In 2003, after extensive restoration, the Hat and Boots found a new home in Oxbow park in Georgetown. Even after their relocation, they continued to attract skateboarders, who utilized the iconic installations as vibrant backdrops for photoshoots and videos, linking the historical landmark to the contemporary skating culture.

Today, the Hat and Boots remain a beloved symbol of local art and culture, attracting both visitors and locals. They are not only a nostalgic relic but also a testament to the city’s resilience and creativity. The iconic installations continue to inspire, a delightful stop for enthusiasts of art, culture, and adventure.
